Progress and Change

Well hello there

Here we are again, another life decision to be made and another road to travel down.

Many years ago, I completed my freelance journalism course, and here I am now as a contributor to Bay News of the Area.

Photography is still a huge part of life for me and will always be.

I am enjoying this new road in my life and am meeting the most extraodinary people with amazing stories and life experiences to share.

Sports reporting certainly wasn't a topic I thought I would ever report on, but, I found my comfort zone and stepped right out of it, so long as I can ask the questions and record accurately, there is no need to be an expert on every topic.

That's for now,

and as always, Always remember to aspire to be better than normal.

Value of a pro photographer

Posted on 6 September, 2016 at 4:30 Comments comments (0)

Well hello there ...

it was pointed out to me recently that people do not value pro photographers anymore due to the amount of people with mobile phones with cameras.

Whilst I agree, and also acknowledge the improvements being made with the capabilities of these devices, for me, I liken it to flour, I am a lousy cook, infact I dislike cooking immensley, no amount of super refined and refined some more flour can result in a delicious cake by me - that's a fact.

My point being, there are some qualities that you simply cannot purchase, I shot a family re-union earlier this year, the background was checked, there were no shadows, or distractions or things growing from people's heads.

I saw a friend post an important four generation image yesterday on facebook, taken on a phone camera.  Four generations, quite an important image really.  However, there are so many things in the background, such as cool bags, pram, drinks, one part has a room divider and the other side is very messy and distracting.

The quality of the image, as in sharpness and clarity is fine, but would you hang it on the wall?  Doubt it, bit like my cake, would I serve it to anyone?  Doubt it.

And that is where the true value of hiring a pro comes in, a piece of wall art, an heirloom could have been created and hung with pride, instead it has  some likes and comments on facebook and that is where it will stay, and at some point no doubt forgotten - what a shame.

The problem photographers face today, is the perception of value of hiring a photographer, you simply cannot replicate on a phone camera the quality and flexibility that you can when you are using equipment worth thousands of dollars and what value is put on the knowledge and training the photographer has?

And on that note, I shall bid you goodnight.

As always, Always Aspire to be Better Than Normal

Well hello there ...

This year has simply flown by,  I;m struggling to come to terms with the fact that we are now in September and spring has sprung.  I have my skates on and making huge steps to getting my studio created and ready in time for my exciting reveal which will be beginning of October, crikey, only 27 or so days away!

I promise you won't be disappointed, it is so very exciting I can hardly wait myself!  And before we know it, we will be exchanging best wishes for the new year!

That's it for the moment, I'm off to create a special page on my website which will be available for viewing on 01 October!

Exciting times ahead, have a fantastic day wherever you may be in the world.

Clouds

Posted on 28 August, 2016 at 8:25 Comments comments (0)

Well hello there ...

Do you see things in the clouds?  I do, I love the clouds and looking at them.  I love it when they are white as this generally means a fabulous sunset of which I am a huge fan.

But on a serious note, someone I knew passed away recently, I was unable to attend the funeral, and was quite contemplative as I was relaxing in the pool, thinking about their last, weeks, days,  hours and then their passing.  I had not felt the need to cry at this point.  I must have taken myself into quite a meditative state as my skin was all wrinkly!

For those who know me, you know I wear glasses and am quite blind without them, well, here I was floating in the pool, eyes closed, when I had a feeling I needed to open my eyes, and there in the sky, without doubt was the image of an angel, I kid you not, I can still see quite clearly the outline, it was very powerful.  I jumped out of the pool to get my phone to grab a picture, but as quick as it arrived it disappeared,

I sat beside the pool and reflected upon what had just happened, and in my heart I believe it was my friend saying goodbye and it was ok, it was then that I was overcome with tears, they poured like an overflowing river.

Have you ever 'seen' things in the clouds?

Attached is an image I took with my phone (so quality is somewhat lacking), I saw this so clearly.

Alrighty, until next time

Three month's really!

Hard to believe it is three, yes three months since I last posted here, how slack!

And here I am wanting to do a blog on a daily basis! Epic fail here I'd say, but hey, at least I'm back.

So for the last three months, I've started a Cert IV in Small Business Management , bought a new super duper lense and then of course needed a new tripod to handle the weight. Body and lens = 3.8kg!!! I'm expecting if I hand hold too often my left boobie will be mis-shapen for good as that's what I use to support my arm and reduce camera shake.

I have also had a little accident, seriously - was taking my dog for a walk, it was dark, something got my attention and for a second I turned to my right, in the meantime, said dog walked to my left, directly infront of me, so when I continued walking, without warning or anything Boof, down I went, face planted the tarmac, glasses fell off, badly bruised my chin, my nose was swollen, had soft tissue damage in left shoulder and have bruised my bones in my left knee

So, leap forward two months and the only injury still healing is the brusied bones in my knee, makes it a tad difficult to bend down fully!

Signing off for now, and as always, Always Aspire To Be Better Than Normal

The Power of a Casual Comment

Posted on 28 May, 2016 at 23:25 Comments comments (0)

Well hello there ...

Last night I went to a gathering and met some incredible people and witnessed first hand the bond which has been created through a product called Scentsy.

As I said in my previous blog, I honestly feel casual comments can be life-changing, never more has this been true of the person who signed up under me when I was selling this product.  A young man by the name of Nathan, met him on a wet and windy day at the local markets, my casual comment to him was 'you should become a consultant you are so passionate'. Few months later he was signed up. Not only did he sign up, he has gone from strength to strength in such a short period of time it is nothing short of inspirational.

Even though I am no longer officially associated with the product, last night I felt like I was part of the team, and I guess in a way I am.  It humbles me to see how my casual comment has changed the life of such an incredible person who has then gone on to inspire, support and encourage an entire team of his own.

If your inner voice is speaking to you, listen and share, you will never know how you can change someone's life in an amazing way.

As always, have a fabulous day, and Always Aspire to be Better Than Normal

Inspiration

Well hello there

Sometimes in life we have a conversation with someone who makes a flippant comment about something you should consider.  Yesterday was one of those conversations.  Whilst having a chin wag with my neighbour, she suggested I look into advertising with What's on in our Backyard.  As my boys are older, I never get to see this publication anymore.  Anyway, I researched the magazine and sure enough it is something I could see me advertising in.

Today a lovely lady from the magazine called me and we had quite a lengthy conversation - those that know me, know this is quite the norm!  We spoke at length of the advertising opportunity with the magazine and the best options for me.  I was impressed that she had already checked out my website which meant we were able to talk about some of my images and the thought and planning which went into each one.

Hearing the enthusiasm in this ladies voice and her words of encouragement for my plans for Square Shoe Photography, I am so excited about the launch of my new aspect of photography come July, I am giving nothing away at this stage as I don't want to spoil the surprise for you.  As they say, watch this space ...

Oh and another wonderful aspect of advertising with them, is that I get to write the editorial for my business, been a long time since I had editorial in a magazine - very excited!  Strange how your life experiences all come together.  Many years ago I studied and qualified as a travel photo-journalist with the Australian College of Journalism, now I am using those skill still to enhance my photography business.

It is certainly a phenominal time to be alive.

Hope you all have a fabulous day, and don't forget - Always Aspire to be Better Than Normal!

Running a Business

Posted on 26 May, 2016 at 8:50 Comments comments (0)

Well hello there

Coming to the completion of my Cert IV in small business management, I am over-whelmed with the amount of paperwork required to run a business.

During my studies I have taken a step back from actual photography to establish some behind the scenes strategies, (I think ignorance has its benefits though), so a marketing plan, business plan, social media plan, printing plan, publishing plan - ( I am seriously all planned out), is starting to take shape both in my head and on paper.

However, a couple more weeks and I should be set to take the world by storm.  Watch this space ...

Tears of Joy

Well hello there

There is nothing more rewarding than doing a 'job' you are totally passionate about.  I am very fortunate in this respect on two counts, I have my job in dementia and my passion for photography on all other days.

Yesterday, I delivered a photobook to a client, this was from the family re-union I did in March 2016.  The client was eagerly turning the pages to see more and more, I was humbled when she looked at me with tears in her eyes followed by a hearty hug and thank you.

I then learned about the meaning behind the second copy that she had ordered, which left me with a lump in my throat,  (actually gone goose bumply thinking about it).  I know both copies of these photo-books have so much more meaning than simply arranging images within.

My passion for photography will never diminish especially after seeing the emotional impact and memories I can create.

Hope you have a fabulous day.

Till next time, Always Remember to Aspire to be Better Than Normal

Happy New Year

Well hello there

Can you believe this is my first post for 2016!  Crazy, where has the first five months of this year gone?  Best be getting my skates on to commence the upcoming doggie book for 2016, although I have already started with three beautiful dogs last week, and 8 others waiting for their model call. This year, I'm going to spice things up a little, but you will surely have to wait until nearer the time to find out!

A calendar for sure, as last years sold out in record time.

We now have a kitten, called Puss Puss, so he will be featured very soon for his debut on my website.

Bye for now x
